Three temples loop

GADALADENIYA TEMPLE

Gadaladeniya Viharaya is a 14th Century Buddhist temple located in Pilimathalawa. This temple was designed by a South Indian designer Ganeshvaracar ifollowing Hindu artistic style.( Dravidian style). This temple was aboandoned untill King Veera Parakrama Narendrasinghe (1707-1739) who handed over the temple to welivita Sri sarankara Thero, whose student monks have looked after this temple ever since.

 

LANKATHILAKE TEMPLE

Another 14th century beautiful Buddhist temple in Daulagala road Pilimathalawa. This temple was built by King Bhuwanekabahu iv and this was designed by another south Indian architect named Sathapati Rayar. The Image House of Lankathilake is enriched with Devalas dedicated to gods Upulvan, Ganapathi, Saman, Vibhushana, Katharagama and Kumara Bandara.

 

EMBEKKA DEVALAYA

Embekka temple (Devalaya) was built by the King Vikramabahu iii in the 14th Century. This devalaya is dedicated to Lord Katharagama and also a Local deity called Devatha Bandara is worshiped here. The wood carvings in the pillars of the audience hall is one of the main attractions of this temple.
